My name is David Stockdale. I’m a programmer, mechanical designer, and CAD administrator. I work at a large manufacturing company in Spokane Washington where I automate engineering processes.
Launched in 2018, I started this site to share my experiences with everything from programming and automation to CAD and mechanical design.
Bio
Early life
I owe much of my love and curiosity for mechanical things to my Dad. He got me started at an early age working on lawn mowers, dirt bikes, his truck and other things that needed fixing. I can still remember begging him to take the head off of the lawn mower engine or to take the centrifugal clutch apart on his chain saw. With very few exceptions, he took the time to show me how the world worked – and for that I’m very grateful.
Professional
I have been in some form of manufacturing and design since 1999. Heck, even my extra curricular activity during my college years was spent working as a CNC machine operator. After graduation, I moved into a design position which had a pretty heavy emphasis on automated processes for the next six years. This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship with code! I was instantly hooked when I saw my first program spring to life magically do what I asked it to do. I enjoyed it so much that I started working on small automation projects “in the margins” as I had time – and I’ve been doing it ever since.
